This year marks the 60th anniversary of Australia’s involvement in the Vietnam War, a conflict that shaped the nation’s military history and defined the courage of its soldiers. Among those who served with distinction were the members of the Special Air Service Regiment (SASR), whose bravery and skill set the foundation for Australia’s Special Forces capabilities today. To honor these heroes and support ongoing efforts to preserve their legacy, a unique fundraising opportunity has arisen, a silent auction featuring a special resin wall art display and a chance to support the preservation of a historic aircraft.
Remembering the SASR and Their Role in Vietnam
The SASR played a critical role during the Vietnam War, undertaking dangerous missions that required exceptional courage and resilience. Their operations helped shape Australia’s approach to special forces warfare, and their legacy continues to inspire current and future generations of soldiers.

To commemorate this milestone anniversary, a specially crafted resin wall art display has been created. This piece captures the spirit of the SASR warriors from that era, celebrating their tenacity and dedication. It serves not only as a tribute but also as a reminder of the sacrifices made by these elite soldiers.

here's the reason:
Introducing ‘Silky Smooth’ CH47D Chinook, Tail Number A15-152
The fundraising effort centers around a remarkable aircraft known affectionately as ‘Silky Smooth’—a CH47D Chinook helicopter with tail number A15-152. This aircraft supported Australian forces, including the SASR, in modern conflicts such as Afghanistan. It carried troops over challenging landscapes and through difficult conditions, often in missions that were anything but smooth.
When ‘Silky Smooth’ was retired, the Special Air Service Historical Foundation (SASHF) welcomed it into their collection. The aircraft now rests at Campbell Barracks in Perth, awaiting a purpose-built structure that will allow it to be fully assembled and displayed for the public to appreciate its operational history.

Why This Fundraiser Matters
The CH47D Chinook is more than just a piece of machinery; it represents decades of service, sacrifice, and support for Australian troops. Preserving this aircraft in a dedicated display will:
Honor the legacy of the SASR and other Australian forces who relied on it in combat.
Educate the public about the vital role of aviation in modern warfare.
Preserve history for future generations to understand and appreciate the challenges faced by service members.
Currently, the aircraft is stored in a shed, limiting its visibility and impact. The funds raised through this silent auction will go directly to the SASHF to build a structure that showcases the Chinook in all its operational glory, including the marks and wear that tell its story.
